Shasta View Lodge Buyout & Wedding FAQ
Planning a wedding, family gathering, retreat, or other special event at Shasta View Lodge? Our lodge buyouts give you exclusive use of the property, allowing you to bring everyone together in one place for a multi-day celebration.
Below are answers to many of the questions we receive from guests considering a buyout as well as those already planning their event.
The Lodge & What's Included
What is included with a Shasta View Lodge buyout?
A buyout gives your group exclusive use of Shasta View Lodge for the duration of your stay. This includes all 9 cabins with overnight accommodations for up to 40 guests, along with our outdoor ceremony and reception areas, patio, indoor event space with built-in bar, and commercial kitchen for catering prep and service.
One of the things we love about a lodge buyout is that your celebration doesn't have to be limited to the wedding itself. You can use the property for your rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, overnight accommodations, and a send-off breakfast the following morning.
Is there a minimum stay?
Yes. Lodge buyouts have a two-day minimum.
How many people can stay overnight?
Our 9 cabins can accommodate up to 40 overnight guests.
How many guests can we have at our wedding or event?
Our outdoor event spaces can accommodate up to 150 seated guests.
Our indoor event space can accommodate up to 80 seated guests or 150 standing guests.
Can we have our rehearsal dinner or farewell breakfast at the lodge?
Yes. Because you have exclusive use of the property during your buyout, the lodge can be used for your rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, overnight lodging, and send-off breakfast.
Ceremony & Reception
Can we have both our ceremony and reception at Shasta View Lodge?
Absolutely. The property has outdoor space for both ceremonies and receptions, including views of Mount Shasta and a patio that can be used for dining or as a dance floor. We also have indoor event space with a built-in bar, dining area, and dance floor.
What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?
As a mountain venue, weather can change, so we recommend having a backup plan for outdoor events. Cedar Cabin provides indoor event space that can be used as part of an inclement-weather plan.
Weather, wildfire smoke, and air quality are outside of the lodge's control and aren't grounds for a refund or partial refund.
Can we put up a tent?
Yes, in designated areas. Tents may be used in the side courtyard in front of Cabin 6 or in the parking lot. Tents aren't permitted in the backyard or patio areas behind Cedar Cabin, and the lodge's existing string lights cannot be removed.
Food & Alcohol
Can we choose our own caterer?
Yes. You're welcome to choose your own caterer. We love giving couples the flexibility to create an event that feels like their own.
Can we bring our own food?
Yes. You have the flexibility to bring your own food rather than hiring a caterer.
Is there a kitchen available for our caterer?
Yes. The lodge has a commercial kitchen available for food prep and service, including refrigerators, an oven for warming, and an ice machine.
The kitchen and food-prep areas need to be cleaned after use, including putting dishes away, wiping counters, cleaning spills, removing trash, and leaving the space in a neat, broom-clean condition.
Can we bring our own alcohol?
Yes. You may provide your own alcohol. Alcohol must be served responsibly, may not be served to anyone under 21, and service must stop 30 minutes before teardown begins.
Can we have a cash bar?
No. Cash bars aren't permitted.
Vendors & Planning
Can we choose our own vendors?
Yes. You're free to choose your own caterer, DJ, florist, photographer, coordinator, rentals, and other vendors. We don't charge a fee for bringing in outside vendors.
Do you have recommended vendors?
Yes. We maintain a list of local and regional vendors for catering, DJs and sound, florists, photographers, rentals, and wedding coordination. You're welcome to use those recommendations or choose your own vendors.
Do we need a wedding planner or coordinator?
You need to designate an on-site coordinator/day-of point person for your event. This can be a professional wedding planner or a trusted friend or family member. This person serves as the primary point of contact if questions or issues come up during the event.
Do our vendors need insurance?
Yes. Vendors present at Shasta View Lodge—including for drop-off, during the event, or for pickup—are required to carry insurance and provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI) additionally insuring the Wedding Party and Basecamp House LLC dba Shasta View Lodge. Proof is due 30 days before the wedding.
Wedding & Event Insurance
Do we need event insurance?
Yes. Wedding liability insurance with up to $1 million in coverage is required, with proof provided at least 30 days before the wedding. The policy must additionally insure Basecamp House LLC dba Shasta View Lodge.
If alcohol will be served, your policy must include alcohol coverage.
Music & Quiet Hours
Can we have a DJ or live music?
Yes. DJs and event music are welcome, but Shasta View Lodge is subject to local noise regulations.
What time does music need to end?
Strict quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM. Please plan for your last song and any wedding send-off to take place before 10:00 PM. The contract provides for a $500 fine if loud noise is reported after quiet hours begin.
Decorations
Can we decorate the lodge?
Absolutely. You're welcome to bring in decorations to personalize your event, subject to lodge approval.
We don't allow confetti, glitter, Chinese lanterns, artificial flower petals, birdseed, party string, rice, candles, fireworks, traditional sparklers, or other open flames anywhere on the property.
How can we hang decorations?
Please use tape when hanging decorations. Nails, tacks, staples, Command Strips, and other adhesives aren't permitted. All tape should be removed during teardown.
Can we have candles or sparklers?
No. Open flames—including candles, fireworks, and traditional sparklers—aren't permitted.
Parking
How much parking is available?
The lodge has 21 paved parking spaces plus approximately 30 spaces in the overflow lot, along with additional free street parking.
Overflow and street parking aren't available during the winter months, November through April, so winter events should plan accordingly.
Setup, Teardown & Cleanup
When can we begin setting up for our event?
Your specific access period will be listed in your rental contract. All setup, event activities, and teardown need to take place within that contracted access period.
Can our vendors leave equipment at the lodge for pickup later?
All personal belongings, decorations, food, beverages, and vendor equipment should be removed by the end of your contracted access period. Items left beyond that time may result in an additional $300 per day pickup/delivery or event-time fee.
What are we responsible for cleaning after the event?
We don't expect you to perform the lodge's normal turnover cleaning, but the property does need to be left in a tidy, broom-clean condition.
Before checkout, please remove event items and decorations, put trash and recyclables in the provided dumpsters, clean up food and spills, sweep event areas, and return lodge furniture and other items to their original locations. Parking areas, lawns, walkways, and common areas should also be free of event-related debris.
Can we move furniture around for our event?
Furniture should not be moved between cabins, indoor furniture shouldn't be taken outside, and outdoor furniture shouldn't be brought inside. Any furniture moved within an allowed area needs to be returned to its original location before checkout.
Pricing & Reserving Your Dates
How much does a Shasta View Lodge buyout cost?
Buyout pricing varies based on the month, day of the week, and holidays or other high-demand dates. Current standard rates range from $2,500 to $4,250 per day, with separate pricing for designated holiday periods and special weekends.
For current pricing for your dates, please contact us at (530) 918-8240 or info@shastaviewlodge.com.
How do we reserve our dates?
Your dates are reserved once we receive your signed rental contract and 50% Space Reservation Fee. Until both are received, the dates aren't considered reserved.
When is the remaining balance due?
The remaining 50% is due 60 days before your event date.
Is there a security deposit?
Yes. A refundable security deposit is due 30 days before the booking date. The amount will be listed in your rental agreement. Assuming there aren't deductions for damages, additional cleaning, or other applicable charges, security-deposit reimbursement is sent within 15 days after checkout.
Cancellations & Date Changes
What happens if we need to cancel our event?
Cancellations must be made in writing. Payments already made, including the Space Reservation Fee and any subsequent payments, are non-refundable.
Can we change our event dates after booking?
Date changes may be possible depending on how far in advance they're requested and are always subject to availability.
More than 14 months before the event, you may change dates without an additional change fee. From 14 months down to 2 months before the event, a change fee ranging from 15% to 40% of the original rental rate applies. Date changes aren't permitted within 2 months of the event.
If you move to dates with a higher rental rate, you'll be responsible for the difference. Moving to lower-priced dates doesn't reduce your original contracted rental rate.
Property Rules
Is Shasta View Lodge a smoke-free property?
Yes. Smoking and vaping aren't permitted anywhere at the lodge. This includes cigarettes, cigars and marijuana.
Are fire pits or outdoor fires allowed?
No. Open fires, including fire pits, aren't permitted on the property.
